Artist Statement:
My inspiration has always come from nature and architecture, particularly buildings that are a little worn around the edges and landscapes that enthuse a sense of quiet awe. My materials are mixed depending on the piece and idea. I use both structural elements and natural objects in my sculptures and a mix of traditional materials in my two-dimensional work.
The feeling of something familiar in a new context is always a point of departure for me. The colloquial nature of my work is generated by my interest in the stories of our lives.
Artist Bio:
Carol Weber was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and actively pursued art since a young age. She moved to Illinois as a graduate student at Northern Illinois University where she earned a Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degree. She has remained in the Chicago vicinity since that time, teaching Art and Design at South Suburban College for nearly 30 years. Weber has exhibited nationally and internationally, and acted as co-curator for Gallery 201 at Argonne National Laboratory. She currently works out of her home-based studio in Downers Grove, IL.
